CALENDAR: Slieve Donard!!!!

Just might get a possibility to go the Mountains of Mourne and run a NIMRA (Northern Irish Mountain Running Organisation) race!

Slieve Donard
An IMRA carpool will take us to this great 10.9k race with a staggering 1060 metre climb over two summits: mighty Slieve Donard (highest mountain of the Six Counties with its 849m) and Slieve Commedagh (767m).

Facts
Slieve Donard is the highest mountain in nine county Ulster and the 19th highest in Ireland. Its named after a contempory saint to St. Patrick: St. Domhangart. Its original name is Beann mBoirchi meaning "Peak of the Peak District".

Slieve Commedagh means "Watching/Guarding Mountain" in Gaelic and can be seen below. Its the second highest mountain in the Six Counties and the 63rd highest in Ireland. You can see the "Mourne Wall" creeping up its top (this pictuer is taken from Slieve Donard)

Dangerous!
From the race description there is no doubt that this is the most perilous race I will attend yet as it is easily possible to get lost in the area and the descents are treacherous.

The race is the day after our big company Karaoke Night, but I guess I'll just have to lay low on the booze! Oh, the sacrifice...
